Still Going Strong

If you read this, you know Andrew and I have done the trial and error method of life.

If you read this, you will know we had a shaky, wobbly beginning.

This seemingly precarious union has lasted

thirty-two years today!

I’d like to say something profound here, give the ‘in [...]

I Hate Gadgets- No, Really

I once bragged that I most assuredly was not a kitchen gadget person. But I am. I claimed to steer clear of all contraptions that are single purpose and usually a menace to store.

Tonight one of the gadgets will come in to play like it does almost weekly. Today is our swamped with activities day- [...]

Identity Crisis

Another surprising book by the people at Mars Hill, Disciple- Getting Your Identity From Jesus. I think that means that next time I read a great book by Mars Hill, I shouldn’t be surprised.

The author, Bill Clem, gives an eye opening explanations about what it means to glorify God- to be a disciple. Clem’s wife [...]

Happy Birthday Valiant!

My good friend Alison: giving Valiant the childhood his mother never will.  Thanks for making it a REAL birthday!

“It’s Four Seams and You’re Done, Mom”

Meghan said I should make a pillow out of some gorgeous fabric. I cringed, “I hate sewing, and there are a lot of pillows for sale most everywhere. I most certainly do not need to make any”

“Mom, it’s four seams and you’re done. This is beautiful fabric”

“I’ll think (long and hard) about it.”

We were out [...]

A Baptism Party for Rhys

We went out for a quick over night visit to Caitlin and Zac’s place to celebrate Rhys’ baptism.  What fun we packed into a short little stay.  The food was amazing, bacon wrapped asparagus, Traeger smoked tri tip, shrimp scampi, and some lovely cheeses.  And of course plenty of baby holding.

Stick Horse

Valiant’s birthday is coming up and there is nothing in the world he loves more than ‘worses’, so I thought I would make him a stick-horse.

We’ll see if I can turn this into a favorite childhood toy.  I still remember the matching pair Meghan and I had– brown corduroy, red yarn manes…. we had many [...]

Fixing a Danish Modern

I have had Danish Modern chairs on the brain since, well, I keep seeing them in the decorating magazines.  I have been on the hunt for some and the search has been arduous, since now everyone wants them.  ”Oh, we got rid of two Danish Modern chairs and a sofa back in the ’80s in [...]

How to be in 5, and a Half, Places at Once

First off, no, there is not another girl expected to enter the family, this half is coming from the slightly
outnumbered portion of the Rice family. The boys, the men, the Rice men and the husbands of the
former Rice girls.

Although seemingly invisible to the action and adventures of the Pinkpeppers, we have a voice! A small
voice, [...]

Piecrust Promise

There is a reason why broken promises are so painful, why they devastate. Promises are like telling the future. They are otherworldly. They are holy.

“A human promise is an awesome reality. When a woman makes a promise, she thrusts her hand into the unpredictable circumstances of her tomorrow and creates an enclave of predictable reality. [...]

Tantalizing Textiles

Jas and I are packing our bags for Vietnam and I am looking forward to getting a new wardrobe made while we are there.  Meghan and mom helped me pick out a few beautiful fabrics to bring along – I will make sure to post some pictures of the finished products!

The Magical Technique to Raising Wonderful Children

“Seven kids!? How did you do it and what did you do when… a child refused to listen, a child had temper tantrums, a child just seems impossible to deal with, what did you do?

And my answer has always been, “uhhh”

I pondered that very sage response and wondered why I can never come up with [...]

Life Un-Edited

After posting about the Cherry Blossoms I looked down to see what mom had written about none of us posting.  I was flattered to see that she made it look as though I have a busy life, but the fact of the matter is that it’s just life– I’m not any busier than anyone else.

The  [...]

A Sort of Compliment

First painting after the three day workshop on the right. And round two of the same on the left.

The highest compliment from Andrew was, “If that painting were hanging in a room with other artists paintings, I would never in a million years have thought you painted it.” I think that’s called a half [...]

Cherry Blossoms

With all the warm weather we’ve been having, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom already and the Cherry Blossom Festival begins today.  The key to being able to enjoy a stroll along the Tidal Basin without the crowds is to get there early in the morning– so that’s just what we did today and [...]

Where oh where have my little pinkpeppers gone!??

Have you been wondering that, ’cause I have.

Seems everyone one of us have gotten busy all at the same time.

Meghan has become a sought after photographer and is doing shoots all over the place. That and teaching school to their three school age children while Fox attempts to keep up with the gang.

Erin is on [...]

Big Fat Faker

Driving up to the building, it looked dark and locked. The sign said “open 10-5″ It was 9:25. I was just in time for the class that I thought was here.

I discovered, no, I did not have the number to call the coordinator; no, I did not have the number for the art gallery; and [...]
