Entryway Lights

What sets the tone of your house like the entry?

In these old row homes the entry is usually narrow and puts your directly at the bottom of the staircase.  Some of the houses have a vestibule and an inner door which I love because it keeps the freezing or sultry air from blowing straight through to the back of the house. There’s really no space for tables, umbrella urns, coat hooks or any other decor so if you are going to make a statement it needs to be with the utilitarian items– lighting, walls, floors.  Someday I’d love to wallpaper a vestibule, tile it, have a gorgeous runner going up the stairs, an impressive mirror…. but right now I’m in phase one and I’ve been looking for lights.

Here are some ideas:

Oly Abalone Chandelier $2722

A Mercury Glass Pendant $249

Clear Glass Globe Pendant with Edison Bulb $120

Osgood Iron Gold Pendant $750

Egyptian Metalwork Lanter $498

Baker Smokbell Lantern (to the trade)

Fourhands St Germain Pendant (to the trade)

Sheherazade $4687

Any favorites? Which would you choose?

Looks like there is some ACTION ready to take place in that DC hacienda of yours. I like the Mercury glass and the gold pendant from the practical side of things, but the Sheherazade is striking. Love your ideas, keep them coming.

I can never get this to work but if this goes through my vote is also for the mercury glass first and i also like the Baker smokbel. However if money is no problem the Sheherazade is amazing.

  • Oh my word! I know! That last one is stunning (I should post a photo from looking up at it). House Beautiful does these “so you’re looking for a ____” sections and I always like picking out my favorite whatever-it-is and seeing how expensive my taste is. I’m afraid Sheherazade will not be coming to live in our house….

I really like the mercury glass…..second is Osgood…..a couple of those depend on your foyer….but my guess is they’d be too small no matter what.

The Mercury Glass. Gorgeous and it has the opening down so you don’t have to get up there to clean out a fixture that is a dust collector (and dead insects :) I’d never get the Abalone cleaned!
