My kitchen never felt clean when I got done cleaning it. Maybe it had to do with the fine layer of grime dating from the 1920′s. Actually I don’t know when the last time was that the kitchen was painted for sure, but I don’t think I’m exaggerating too much. It was chipped, bumped, scraped, smeared, splattered [...]
A long time ago when I was in Europe, all the women there were wearing beautiful scarves. In fact you could easily spot the American tourist for her lack of scarf. That and the sneakers.
Here we are years later and scarves have caught on big time here.
Andrew bought me this one at Seattle Children’s Hospital. [...]
Taite keeps getting more and more special. Not many get this surgery twice.
After surgery a few weeks ago things were seemingly going well. And then little by little we were in deja vu. Pretty much back to no food and very little fluids were getting to her stomach.
Tests in Seattle confirmed what we already knew. [...]

Most people have Easter dresses, or Easter hats, or maybe white Easter shoes. Freyja has an Easter coat. With about nine more months of winter to come this year, we’ll be prepared, and warm during the egg hunt.
Meghan, I want to see what spring things your kids will be sporting for Easter, and Erin, how about [...]

I have some gorgeous cowhides that just went on sale but are being snapped up quickly! The selection of stenciled ones are very fun and the Devore Beige and Cafe is stunning, I think (and it’s an X Large!) . Contact me with the hide you are interested in: zac.cait@gmail.com while supplies last.
Brown Black and White special, Size [...]
We were really hoping not to, but we are returning to Seattle Children’s Hospital midweek. We were going to be the special appointment right here in our home town’s satellite clinic with a surgeon flying in specially to see Taite on Friday. Things are not progressing as they should, at all. Now we are traveling [...]
“My family’s Sunday morning ritual is to walk to our neighborhood farmers market and pick up a few things for lunch. My friends in Vermont, Zachary and Clark, have a different ritual. They drive to see Lisa and breakfast on doughnuts.”- Amazon Daily, March 11, 2011
I read this on Amazon’s blog and thought, “Wow, what [...]

On our trip to Florida I learned that Sanibel is one of the best places to find sea shells. In the world. I had no idea. And we couldn’t have had a better sea shell guide than my grandmother-in-law who has been shelling for years, has won just about every ribbon the Sanibel shell fair [...]
Because I am married to a nuclear chemist the recent earthquake and its effect on the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant has been carefully watched at our house.
William Saletan has written a thought provoking article at Slate on the overreacting that we are so prone to do.
And one more helpful site is from M.I.T’s [...]

Our Florida vacation is now only a memory, evidenced by our quickly fading tans, my dead house plants, and the sand in our suitcases. And photos of course. There’s nothing like being subjected to someone’s vacation photos (especially if they insist at looking at them with you and are controling the page turning speed) Buuuuuuuuut. . . [...]
I know it sounds crazy to some people but I’m itching to do it again. We put our house on the market, it escalated significantly above asking price and went under contract in 7days. I’ll be thrilled when it’s all settled but in the mean time Tim and I are scoping out our next project. This time, though, I’d like [...]
Here are some of the stamps I bought.
A friend of mine and I went to an antique store and I came home with fourteen stamps and having spent no more than a dollar. Pretty good I thought and the stamps were so pretty. Now I just have to figure out what to do with them. Any ideas?
How cute is this?
I think this is adorable and may just have to make one for Anwyn for Easter. I am right now working on their Easter outfits. Each year they get a new one and Anwyn’s is the most fun to do. Until now I have not found one that I would love [...]
Surely I am the only one. I get grumpy. Doubly surely, I am the only one whose grumpiness ends up mostly affecting those I love most. And triply surely, I am the one and only who manages to first of all take it all out on my dear husband.
For about six weeks he and I [...]
M is for Mischief
I don’t think my kids are alone in this, but they love to hear stories about bad little children who end up getting their comeuppance. I have two such books, one I checked out at the library “M is for Mischief” by Linda Asherman and as I suspected if was a [...]
Well, well, well.
Taite is back home.
We have had a roller coaster of months. When we first began to deal with Taite’s inability to eat, what I really wanted to do was ignore it and give it a chance to go away. Hmmm, nope, that didn’t work.
So, we encouraged her to just eat, regular food just [...]
I just finished The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. It is the story of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife (not to be confused with the other three). It is told from his wife’s perspective.
Ernest Hemingway was a jerk and he had a wife who loved him. Older by about seven years, [...]
