On Your Dime

First Lady Michelle Obama smiles while she visits Marbella, southern Spain.

Aren’t you glad somebody‘s using your money this summer for nice little vacation?  Since so many are downsizing our lives and watching our budgets, isn’t it nice to know when we pool all our money that Michelle can have a grand time on it?

“I don’t begrudge anyone rest and relaxation when they work hard. We all need downtime – the First Family included. It’s the extravagance of Michelle Obama’s trip and glitzy destination contrasted with President Obama’s demonization of the rich that smacks of hypocrisy and perpetuates a disconnect between the country and its leaders.”   ~Andrea Tantaros

“In January, President Obama insisted that ‘everybody in the country is going to have to sacrifice something, accept change for the greater good. Everybody is going to have to give. Everybody is going to have to have some skin in the game.’”  ~Andrea Tantaros

Consider it done, Mr. President.

Villa Padierna in Marbella

The Obamas and their party are staying at the Villa Padierna in Marbella, which is rated as one of the top hotels in the world.  Mrs Obama arrived by plane at Malaga airport on Wednesday morning and was driven in a 14-car convoy to the five star Hotel Villa Padierna, where her entourage has reserved 60 of the 129 rooms.

Tantaros wrote: ‘To be clear, what the Obamas do with their money is one thing; what they do with ours is another. Transporting and housing the estimated 70 Secret Service agents who will flank the material girl will cost the taxpayers a pretty penny.’

  • And the sick thing is, how much will they even enoy or appreciate one more stay in one more top hotel in the world. . . yawn.

  • If they’d traveled somewhere in the US, and poured taxpayer money into the taxpayers’ business . . .

If I was the First Lady, I’d do it. I’m just sayin’…

  • Elizabeth

The outfit is just as disturbing! She will never come close to Jackie!

  • Krista Staigle

Yes, that dress (from what I can see of it) looks a bit like a golf ball print shower curtain, if you ask me…

I don’t come to this blog to read about politics. Keep up the stuff on cute antiques and projects and stuff!

  • I know, I know, Girl Reader. I mostly try to stick to clever ideas and good food but every now and then these things just kinda bust out of me like Tourette Syndrome. I can’t help myself; the thing just keeps eating at me and my computer keys take on a life of their own and then before I know it I’ve hit “Publish.” Then I calm down a bit and start paging through House Beautiful again.

  • That’s right, mom, get back in the kitchen where a woman belongs. And put on a cute apron while you’re at it.

  • Shari Keen

Yeah, Terri….what were you thinking…letting yourself drift into some social conciousness…and make sure the apron is one of those with a ruffle. I am really laughing!!!

  • Elizabeth

Golf balls were my exact thoughts.

I’m sorry, I love your blog but I am having the Tourette’s issue too, only with opposite opinions. I think Ruth Marcus said it well:
“If Michelle and Sasha had hung out at home, not one more American would have a job, not one-hundredth of a decimal point would be added to the gross domestic product. Yes, her travel required a government plane and Secret Service resources, but that would be true wherever she went. It was true when George W. Bush made 77 visits to his ranch in Crawford and spent all or part of 490 days there during his presidency, according to CBS News’ Mark Knoller, official tallier of presidential downtime.
The president’s alleged “demonization” involves bashing Wall Street titans for simultaneously crashing the economy and drawing huge bonuses; it’s not their wealth per se that he sees as a problem. And, let’s be serious, Michelle Obama is not going to be staying in a Motel Six anytime soon. “

  • Addressing reporters after a White House Cabinet meeting, President Obama says, “I will not rest until business are investing again, and businesses are hiring again.

Under pressure to get the oil leak stopped, Obama said: “We will not rest until this well is shut, the environment is repaired and the cleanup is complete.”

Obama said, “I Will Not Rest Until Everyone Has A Job, A Good Wage, & Benefits”

“We will not rest until we build an economy that’s ready for America’s future”

Obama will not rest… blah, blah, blah

And then he’s off to vacation and rest. Hotel Six!? Give me a break!

And as for Obama’s wealth bashing, “We’re not, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” Now if that doesn’t sound Marxist, you need to go back to high school poli sci.
