Love, Love Me Do

Aileen and Jason are engaged to be married this fall!

Man oh man, that is a lot of planning in a very short time so we got started this past weekend.  Aileen is the most laid back wedding planner ever!

Compared to planning Meghan’s wedding, it is amazing what is available through the internet.  It has saved tons of running around by looking online and narrowing down where we go.  Taite and I spent the weekend with Aileen at her apartment, which is directly over a bar and grill which is open until 2 a.m. and which is Mexican themed and which play thumpa thumpa music until 2 a.m. interspersed with a little Tom Petty and which you can hear from her apartment as though you are at the bar and for which I was not able to sleep until the bar finally closed at 2 a.m.  Other than that for which Aileen calls me the Princess and the Pea, we had a very wonderful time.  We ate Sunday morning breakfast before going to church at a great little coffee shop.

For dinner the first night we had New Orleans style food, jambalaya and seafood gumbo at a quaint restaurant .

And since there were no guys around, we ate dinner on the sofa the next night watching chick flicks, It’s Complicated (very intriguing for the fact that I am an older woman), P.S. I Love You (very sad) and New in Town (corny and predictable).

We had an amazingly productive yet relaxing weekend.

Laid back is good…..and actually so is the shorter amount of time, in my opinion. I had nine months when my daughter got married….to wake up with it and go to sleep with it….I think short engagements have their merits. Here I am “preaching to the choir”….this is #4 for you….you’re an expert!!!

  • Mere got engaged on Christmas eve and wanted to get marrried in May but I postponed it until June because of several reasons not the least of which was my precious peony patch which would supply 18 dozen peonies for free. Well, wouldn’t you know it, this year we had a tremendous heat wave of 90 degree weather, for more than a week at the end of April, and all the peonies came in 2 weeks early. So all my best laid plans did go astray. LAID BACK is the best way to go, if you can. But, back to the peonies, leave it to Martha [Stewart that would be] to inform us that peonies can be cut and wrapped in tissue paper and stored in the cold for up to 5 months and reconstituted in warm water at the time they are needed. So being the laid back person I try to be, I cut my peonies one by one and wrapped them in tissue one by one and stored them in the cold, all 18 dozen and presto, 3 days before the wedding they popped into the most beautiful flowers, as though they had just been picked from the garden. If I knew how to put a picture on the pink peppers I would show you. Somehow trusting Martha helped me to rest in a laid back manner trusting that these posies would be okay. Moral ” Laid Back “is the Modus Operandi of choice. You go Aileen!!!!!!

  • That is amazing about the peonies! I heard Meredith’s wedding was absolute perfection in every way.

I am definitely not an expert on this wedding thing but hopefully I have learned some of the more important things about wedding planning…
