During

Wallpaper (center, paisley) fabric (I want to put the cheetah everywhere!) and paint swatches for my color scheme.

I’ve been living in my painting clothes for about 2 weeks now. A  ratty, green t-shirt covered in smears of the various paint colors we’re using around the house and a pair of those ridiculous jeans that you actually buy with paint and tears already in them. Now they are genuine, hard working jeans, instead of just impostors. And I haven’t done my hair on any day but Sundays. So while I sink into further ragamuffin-ish-ness with each day my house looks better and better!

Here are some “during” photos. We’ve got the living room painted (including about a million feet of cream trim!), the couches in, and I’ve found three lamps at my new favorite bargain shopping spot for 25 cents a piece. You’ll have to tell me if they are worth keeping, and what kind of shades to put on them, because I am at a loss. When faced with things that cost a quarter, I’m afraid I start to lose all power of judgement. I had to call Meghan from the store before I bought one more thing.  In a mounting,  frantic tone I said a little too loudly,  ”I just don’t know if I like them or not. . .  I just don’t want to become a junk collector!!”  and got a few odd glances from my fellow shoppers.

The other side of the room. . . needs a little work still.

Upstairs bedroom colors. I love the name of the trim color: Juniper berry.

What do you think? Could I paint these? Are they too old and musty looking? What shades?

I love this one. But again, shade options fail me. I'm seeing a lot of white and white in my magazines but it seems a little boring.

I love the “during”. I oo’d and ah’d aloud to the computer about the white lamp……and I see lots of potential in the others as well….use them all. And I’m a person who never can get too much white. Shades?? Hmmmm..again….I go for pretty simple. Pottery Barn has started carrying quite a selection of shades…..at least a good resource for ideas. Always an option to buy a plain shade and then paint some vines or leaves….kind of abstractly. I have also rubber stamped shades. Closing thoughts…..never too much white and never too many lamps…..its part of my evening ritual to turn on lamps….I dislike overhead lighting. I’m so impressed but not surprised that you are accomplishing all this.

Love the lamps. Can you take shades out of a store to “try” and then return them if they don’t fit. I probably would never do this, but I know those in the family that would. Light tones of the room color might work as would white – I liked the idea of painting vines, flowers etc. on white ones and I happen to know a few artists in the family. Much love.

PS – I like the rustic look of the two on the table by the window – unless they’re really, really dirty leave them be. A little polish may be all they need.

Love the brown lamps and your color schemes. Your house is looking so put together!

Oh me oh my that living room is awesome! and I like how you got 2 sofas!:)

Those lamps are cool and i agree with what grandma said (about keeping the lamps their brownish color unless they are really dirty)

Whatcha planin’ to do in the guest room?

    P.S.
I vote you keep the white lamp

  • I have to agree, the brown lamps just need a really great lampshade. That’s where the color can come in.
    Love the sofas!

  • WHERE are the couches from???

  • I did a ton of online research on leather sofas and when I finally walked into Macy’s, just to see what they had, these were perfect. They are smaller than most, and Italian-made so they are quite decent quality. And you can’t beat the price.
